Decor
New in 2002, the Muddy Rudder creates an intimate dining experience with spectacular views.
Our interior designer wanted to create a classic nautical feel, while keeping in harmony with the natural beauty of our waterfront location. The impeccable design and color Schemes have done just that.
The dining area and lounge are tastefully decorated with seafaring artifacts, paintings and memorabilia. Our table tops include an historic map of the area from 1857 with a star indicating our location.
A bit of history
Legend has it, that many years ago, the tugboat, PORTLAND slowly wound its way up the Cousins River near Freeport. Its destination was Yarmouth, and its purpose was to provide a place for good food, drink, and hospitality. A harsh nor'easter besieged the boat at its mooring and strong winds grounded and overturned her at our Yarmouth location.
Although the PORTLAND is gone, its spirit lives on in the historic spot as we continue to provide our guests with great food, drink and, sometimes at low tide, a glimpse of the hearty old tugboat cabin itself. See our Award Winning menu for history of our new location in Brewer, Maine.
The "Rudder" as the locals call it, has been serving guests since 1976 and has evolved into one of the most popular destinations for FRESH Seafood in Maine.
